Class 2 - Mr Todd
Welcome to Class 2
At Hamsterley Primary School, our children Key Stage 2 are taught in Class 2. Our class teacher is Mr Todd and Miss Jackson is our Teaching Assistant.
Class 2 at Hamsterley Primary School is a mixed-age class comprising 14 children from Year 3 to Year 6. The class is led by our teacher, Mr Todd, and our skilled Teaching Assistant, Miss Jackson. We utilise two learning spaces in school to enable all children to thrive.
Along with our busy timetable of curriculm subjects, every fortnight, on a Tuesday, our class participates in an extensive Physical Education (PE) session, guided by an experienced sports coach from Education Enterprise. On the alternating Tuesday, the children take part in Forest School sessions, which ia led by Miss Mawson, our qualified Forest School practitioner.
We ensure that our curriculum aligns with protected characteristics, British values, and the UN Rights of the Child, thereby preparing our students to be responsible and informed citizens.
Complementing our PE curriculum, every Friday morning, we look forward to swimming sessions at Wolsingham School Swimming Pool, where the children improve their swimming skills while having fun.
At the end of every day, we enjoy a class novel voted for by the pupils. Allocating daily time for reading allows pupils to unwind and immerse themselves in captivating stories.
Children in Class 2 participate in weekly collective assemblies that have a different focus each day. These include celebration assembly, Picture News, PSHE and Faith assemblies. We have an active school council in Hamsterley Primary School and the pupils of Class 2 voted for their year group representatives to be the voice of their class.
Outside classroom hours, children have the opportunity to continue their learning at home through a variety of resources including their home/school reading books, Times Tables Rockstars, Doodle, and bespoke home learning packs that correspond to the topics studied in school. Children also have their own personal iPad which they can take home on a weekend.
Our after-school club programme is also a highlight for many children, offering engaging activities such as film, sports, art, cookery, singing, and board games.
Our Topics For The Year 2023-2024:
Autumn Term – ‘Emperors and Empires’
This project teaches children about the history and structure of ancient Rome and the Roman Empire, including a detailed exploration of the Romanisation of Britain.
Spring Term – ‘Ancient Civilisations’
This project teaches children about the history of three of the world’s first ancient civilisations: ancient Sumer, Ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley civilisation. Children will learn about the rise, life, achievements and eventual end of each civilisation.
Summer Term – ‘Sow, Grow and Farm’
This project teaches children about the features and characteristics of land use in agricultural regions across the world, including a detailed exploration of significant environmental areas.

Autumn Term – ‘Through the Ages’
This project teaches children about British prehistory from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, including changes to people and lifestyle caused by ingenuity, invention and technological advancements.
Spring Term – ‘Frozen Kingdoms’
This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, and includes a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them.
Summer Term – ‘Groundbreaking Greeks’
This project teaches children about developments and changes over six periods of ancient Greek history, focusing on the city state of Athens in the Classical age, and exploring the lasting legacy of ancient Greece.
